If your child is not able to attend school for any reason, parents and carers must contact the school office on 01234 352062 by 9.30am to discuss this with a member of our administration team. Emails and messages sent through the My Child at School app are not accepted for reporting school absence and will not be authorised.

Please make medical and other appointments outside of the school day. If this is not possible, you will be asked to provide medical evidence.

Term Time Holidays

The Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Academies Trust which St Joseph’s and St Gregory’s Primary is part of, has a policy not to authorise any absence during term time. Whilst this policy is enforced at St Joseph’s and St Gregory’s, every request is also looked at on an individual basis, taking into account your child’s own attendance levels and length of intended absence.

In addition to this, the law states that “as of 1st September 2013 Head teachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances. Head teachers should determine the number of school days a child can be away from school if the leave is granted.”

The following reasons are not considered to be exceptional circumstances:

  • availability of cheaper holidays
  • availability of the desired accommodation
  • poor weather experienced in school holiday periods
  • periods overlapping with beginning or end of term
  • Birthdays and celebrations

You must be aware that absence from school during term time is unauthorised absence. A Fixed Penalty Notice may be issued if you decide to take your child out of school during term time.

If you are planning on taking your child out of school during term time, you should contact our school office who will be able to help you with next steps. Further information can be found here
