Science Vision Statement

Our vision for Science is that all children, from Early Years to Year 6 become: ambitious, capable scientists, ready to learn throughout their lives. By encouraging all our children to live the Gospel value, ‘sense of wonder’, we aim to cultivate a sense of curiosity in our children, encouraging them to engage in the world, changing what they can for the better. We aspire for them to become, enterprising, creative contributors, who participate fully in life, adapting to an increasingly scientific and technological world. We recognise that effective pedagogy is paramount to supporting progression and form the basis of our pedagogy on the Rosenshine’s Principles of instruction.

Through excellent, ambitious teaching we will provide opportunities for children to acquire practical scientific skills and a growing understanding of scientific ideas. We will develop every child’s understanding of scientific concepts and nurture their ability to apply these in everyday contexts. At St Joseph’s and St Gregory’s we recognise that to achieve our vision, it is imperative our lessons have a skills-based focus and understand knowledge can be taught through this. Pupils will build on previous knowledge, ask questions and discuss concepts to develop their ideas and understanding.
